Lake Jacomo

The lake is located 30 minutes east of the greater Kansas City area, just south of I-70, between I-470 ( Missouri 291) and Missouri highway 7.

Woods Chapel Road provides access to the northwest side of the lake, while Colbern Road comes around the southeast side of the lake. The lake can be "circumnavigated" via the park roads if one wants to get to the other side of the lake.

 

The main body of Lake Jacomo lies on a northeast/southwest axis, with the dam at the northeast end. The so-called "A" arm of the lake extends southwards from the main body to the south dock on Colbern Road. Liggett Cove is the arm running southeast from the dam. Most of the Jacomo Sailing Club races are run either in the main body or in A arm, with an occasional day spent up in Liggett Cove--depending on prevailing wind conditions.

Main Launch Areas

The boats launch from the drysail lot back in the sailboat cove and many boats launch from the Public Marina on the west side of the lake, there is a  drysail storage area here also. Club bulletin boards are by the ramps in sailboat cove and the west side Marina.

The first race starts at 1:20 pm, which means typical Sundays see the racing sailors arrive at the lake around 12 noon, and most sailboats will depart the cove between 12:15 pm and 12:45 pm. There are two races, each taking about two hours including starts, finishes, etc. Racing boats normal return to the launching areas around 5:30 pm.

If you are at all interested in sailing, by all means stop by the launching areas after the races and ask anybody to talk about their boat (most sailors can talk for hours about their boats!).
